Going To Court

Never Miss A Court Date

It is a defendant’s obligation to appear in court. This is extremely important especially when you do not retain an attorney. Missing a court date can result in a warrant for your arrest. You can be arrested just for missing a court date in New Jersey. You would have to be bailed out once you are arrested. Even if you retain an attorney, keeping track of the court date is your job and very important. There are some circumstances in which the defendant forgets about the court date but the attorney showed up. In that case, the warrant can still be issued because the defendant did not show up. If you are arrested for DUI in New Jersey, the next court date is scheduled within a week or so. You should speak to an attorney immediately, but if you cannot, go to that court date, plead “not guilty” and consult an attorney afterward, but as soon as possible.
